There is significant morbidity and mortality associated with oral cancer, and despite medical advances, there has been little progress in this field. Detecting malignancy as early as possible is paramount and this may be facilitated by recognizing and appropriately managing oral potentially malignant lesions. A contemporary understanding of oral potentially malignant lesions will be reviewed with emphasis on diagnostic and management strategies.
Dr. Hagen Klieb received his undergraduate training at McGill University and completed specialty training at the University of Toronto. He is a certified specialist in Oral Medicine and Pathology and a staff clinician at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center with cross-appointments to the departments of Dentistry and Anatomic Pathology. He maintains a large oral medicine practice and also practices as a staff pathologist as a member of the head and neck pathology team.
Dr. Klieb is active in teaching medical and dental post-graduates and he is also a specialty license board examiner with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Research interests pertain to the molecular pathways of malignancy and he has a number of publications in peer reviewed journals such as the Lancet and Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
