Course Description:

Dentists buy an intraoral scanner and expect it to change their practice, but it doesn’t. The reason is that they aren’t using it effectively. This course will demonstrate how dental practices can get the best ROI on an intraoral scanner and change their practice! As clinicians, we often view digital scanners as a replacement for impression materials. While this is a fantastic attribute of digital scanners, this is a short-sighted view. How can we maximize the return on investment of our digital scanning? The answers are astoundingly simple and help us realize the true value and power of digital technology-communication! In this course, participants will learn how innovations and enhancements in intraoral scanning contribute to improved practice workflows and an enhanced patient experience. Discover how these devices can close the gap of patient communication by allowing you to easily share digital images and provide a better understanding of dental procedures to your patients. Presenter's Bio:

I had been involved in digital dentistry for more than a decade before fully embracing the Align ecosystem. Early scanners in my practice mostly served as a replacement for impression material. When I adopted the iTero platform, that changed dramatically. Instead of simply replacing “goop,” the scanner became the center of how I diagnose, communicate with patients, and plan treatment.

Today my practice in San Antonio, Texas, runs three iTero scanners that are used all day, every day. The technology drives everything from the new patient experience to restorative dentistry and comprehensive treatment planning. What I quickly realized is that when dentists fully leverage the Align Digital Platform, it becomes much more than a scanner or an orthodontic tool. It becomes a platform that can elevate diagnosis, improve patient communication, and expand the types of treatment we are able to provide.

In addition to practicing full-time, I am proud to serve as Faculty for Molis Coaching, where I teach dentists how to integrate modern digital workflows into everyday practice. My lectures focus on practical systems that dentists can immediately implement in their own offices.

Programs I frequently present include Invisalign Smile Architect: Ortho-Restorative Treatment Planning, which explores how Invisalign can be combined with bonding, veneers, and even full mouth reconstruction to create comprehensive treatment plans. In Lumina Restorative: Digital Restorative Workflows with the iTero Lumina Scanner, I discuss how the iTero platform can be leveraged for restorative dentistry, ranging from single-unit crowns to complex full mouth rehabilitation. I also present Leveraging the Align Digital Platform for Diagnosis and Case Acceptance, highlighting tools such as Align Oral Health Suite and Invisalign Outcome Simulator Pro with Multiple Treatment Simulations to help patients visualize treatment options and increase case acceptance.

My goal with every lecture is simple: help dentists unlock the full potential of the Align Digital Platform and bring those benefits to their own patients and practices.

Course Overview:

This course includes interactive case-based dental office medical emergency scenarios that review recognition of abnormal vital signs, the equipment and supplies required for managing an evolving crisis, the decision for EMS transfer and the continuum of care in hospital.

Participants may bring a Wi-Fi–enabled personal electronic device (smartphone or tablet) to participate in optional online posting during the case presentations. Simple and clear strategies for the management of a crisis in the dental office will help you to feel confident in crisis management.

Learning Objectives

Discuss a systematic approach to patient evaluation.
Discuss rescue drugs and understand their delivery.
Understand initial hospital-based care for patients requiring urgent transfer.

Presenters Bios:

Dr. Carilynne Yarascavitch is a graduate of the University of Toronto (DDS 2004, MSc 2008) and is a Dentist Anesthesiologist based in Toronto, Ontario. She is a certified Course Director and Instructor in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. She previously served as an Assistant Professor and Program Director for Dental Anesthesia at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry. She works in both a hospital-based setting within the Department of Dental and Maxillofacial Sciences at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and a community-based setting at Dentistry…Asleep in Yorkville. Her clinical practice helps medically complex, anxious and special care patients access safe, comfortable dental treatment.

Dr. Alec Yarascavitch is a graduate from McMaster University (MD 2010), with residencies in Family Medicine (2012) and Emergency Medicine (2013). He completed his JD and MBA at the University of Toronto Faculties of Law and Rotman School of Management (2018). He is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at McMaster. He practices Emergency Medicine at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and is a Partner at Lerners LLP in Toronto, where he practices in the areas of Health Law, Professional Regulation, and Personal Injury.
