Course Description:

The presenters will review the workflow for guided implant surgery constrasting it to digitally planned but not guided surgery as well as partially guided surgery. They will illustrate the utilization of guided implant surgery through review of clinical cases and will discuss the benefits and limitations of these techniques for simple and complex implant reconstructive surgery and prosthodontic care.

  • Understand how to incorporate patient specific factors into decision making for complex implant rehabilitation
  • Understand the utilization of dental implants and fixed prosthetics in rehabilitation after ablative and reconstructive surgery

Presenters Bio:

 Dr. Karl Cuddy is an assistant professor at University of Toronto in the graduate training program in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He completed dental (DDS) and medical (MD) school as well as his masters of science (MSc) in pathology at the Schulich school of medicine and dentistry at Western university. Residency training was completed at the affiliated teaching hospitals in London, Ontario. Following this he completed a fellowship in advanced craniomaxillofacial surgery and trauma with the head and neck institute in Portland, Oregon. He is on staff, operating at Mt. Sinai, Princess Margaret and Humber River hospitals. Out of hospital private practice occurs in Hamilton and Toronto. His clinical interests include craniomaxillofacial reconstruction including for patients suffering trauma, diseases of the maxillofacial complex as well as for those with congenital malformations. He has worked to establish a 3D printing lab at the university of Toronto within the confines of the residency training program, is interested in curriculum development as well as virtual surgical planning and patient specific implants for reconstructive surgery. Ongoing research projects include evaluation of dental implants and complex maxillofacial prosthetics for patients with a history of maxillofacial tumour or trauma surgery as well as evaluating outcomes of craniomaxillofacial trauma surgery.

 Dr. Ali Khadivi received his undergraduate Bachelor of Medical Science with an honours in Physiology from the University of Western Ontario. He then attended the University of Toronto’s Dental school to complete his Doctor Of Dental Surgery degree while making the Deans Honour List every year. Upon graduation, he entered the dental field practicing all aspect of dentistry. During these years he realized his passion for implant and cosmetic dentistry. This new found drive allowed him to return back to school for the completion of his specialist degree in the field of Prosthodontics. During this time he successfully completed numerous cases ranging from single to full mouth dental implant surgeries as well as full mouth cosmetic and functional rehabilitation. His exceptional skills and work ethics promoted him to the chief of his program at the University of Pittsburghs School of Dental Medicine. Upon successful completion of his Speciality program he then attended the world renown MD Anderson Cancer Centres to complete a dual fellowship in Oral Maxillofacial Prosthodontics & Dental Oncology before moving back to his home town of Toronto, Ontarion. In his spare time, Dr. Ali is a workout enthusiast and body builder, mainly because he loves to eat:)
