Morning Core 1 Course Description:
Oral Surgery has been practiced for millennia. Our evolving understanding of physiology and advances in instrumentation and pharmacology are making it possible to ensure that patients are more comfortable than ever to undergo safe and predictable care. All dentists need an understanding of basic peri-operative assessment and management of oral surgical patients. This is even more paramount when dealing with medically challenging patients.
Learning Objective
- Evaluate a patient for appropriate oral surgery treatment
- Manage common post-operative sequelae and/or arrange for appropriate referral
- Understand the potential complications associated with common oral surgical procedures
Afternoon Program Outline:
This is a continuation of the morning session emphasizing the techniques of Dentoalveolar surgery.

- Review the indications and techniques of oral surgery procedures
- Prevention, mitigation and management of complications
- Management of impacted teeth
- Site optimization strategies for implant placement
Presenter Bio: Dr. Keyvan Abbaszadeh, DMD FRCD(C)
Dr. Keyvan Abbaszadeh originally from Tehran, Iran has called Canada home since 1985. He obtained a Bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto in 1990 and his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1994. His post-graduate education included internship at the Brigham and Women's/Harvard University Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, followed by completing a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1999. He has been in private practice in London, Ontario since then. Keyvan is a Fellow of, and an examiner for, the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also a Fellow of International College of Dentists. Keyvan is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University Of Western Ontario School Of Dentistry. Keyvan is a past president of the London and District Dental Society, and Ontario Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Keyvan's clinical interests are orthognathic, trauma and implant surgery.
This course is open to all dentists in Ontario.
