Course Description:
The development of digital technology over the last decade has revolutionized modern day workflows in Dentistry. These advancements have expanded to include Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, Implant protocols involving the single tooth or full arch replacement and the entire spectrum of Restorative treatment solutions on both implant and natural tooth foundations. Digital Dentistry has improved the efficiencies and predictability of outcomes, reduced stress on the clinician and enhanced patient experience compared to its analog counterpart. The digital workflow may in some cases provide increased accuracy and reproducibility with complex treatment solutions. Photorealistic digital modelling of the patient provides a means to provide patient education, treatment forecasting and understanding of the complexities associated with treatment. Combined with volumetric radiographic data, patients and clinicians benefit from idealized restorative and surgical treatment outcomes in a shorter amount of time through the use of three-dimensional printing and milling of surgical guides and provisional restorations. Digital Colorimeters used in conjunction with photography provide improved shade match for restorations in the Aesthetic Zone.
This presentation aims to demonstrate some of the technology available to improve the clinician’s understanding of developments in digital Dentistry, overcome common barriers to integrating digital technology and discuss how this technology can improve the quality, predictability and efficiency of day to day practice.
Key Learning Objectives:
- To understand how digital workflows can optimize patient care and long-term outcomes
- To utilize digital technology in treatment planning, surgical, and restorative workflows
- To leverage digital technology to provide patient education and improve case acceptance
- To obtain practical, first-hand experience using intra-oral scanning technology
